Recently Released Music

Indian Jewelry - TotaledTotaled by Indian Jewelry, LP released in May 2010: Imagine a dark-wave Animal Collective with minimal lo-fi effects. While not celebratory in nature, lot's of percussion keeps the darkness moving and from ever becoming too much of a dirge. LISTEN & DOWNLOAD “OCEANS”

See Me River - The One That Got a WakeThe One That Got a Wake by See Me River, LP released in May 2010: Once known for their dark and somber, drunken-country vibe, See Me River (another fine band from Seattle) has emerged from the gloom with an enhanced sonic palette, reinventing themselves—adding a layer of psych-rock to their goth-Americana roots.

Grasscut - 1 Inch / 1/2 Mile1 Inch / 1/2 Mile by Grasscut, LP released July 2010: Melodic layered vocals, electro wobble and distortion mixes with piano, violin strings are plucked and played. All of this—and more—combines for complex arrangements in an LP that is chilled and introspective, but not your classic “chill out” album. One half of this production duo’s background as a film/television composer is clearly evident. Accessible and delightful! Check out this video.

Woodsman - Mystery TapeMystery Tape by Woodsman, EP released May 2010: CodeJunkie, a eMusic member puts it well, “A great blend of experimentation, hypnotic groove, and psychedelic sounds. This band is even better live...album does not disappoint.” LISTEN & DOWNLOAD “I CAN'T MOVE”

Tastekid
A multi-media discovery/taste exploration engine
[website]
TastekidMost people who dig around for music online have probably come across a discovery engine (see Pandora). Well, imagine typing in an artist you like and being presented with interesting, compatible suggestions in film and literature that really make sense—in addition to great music recommendations. Sometimes, less known items are recommended instead of more similar, yet much more popular ones, in order to increase the chances of discovering something new.

Kickstarter
A new way to fund and follow creativity
[website]
Like Tastekid above, this site encompasses more of the arts than just music. Kickstarter is a great way for (struggling) artists, filmmakers, musicians, designers, writers, athletes, adventurers, illustrators, explorers, curators, promoters, performers, and others to bring their projects to life. Every project has a funding goal (any dollar amount) and a time limit (from 1 - 90 days) set by the project creator. Kickstarters (funders & followers) discover these projects and stay up-to-date with those they fund through blog posts, pics, and videos as people bring their ideas to life. Direct communication between the kickstarter and dreamer is even possible. Check out their FAQ for more details on funding practices. The site couldn’t be easier to navigate.

The Black Cab Sessions
“One. Song. One Take. One Cab.”
[website]
The Black Cab<br />
SessionsThe tag line above pretty much says it. A group of friends from London with some time on their hands, with a love for music & film have been able to create a series of great video vignettes throughout the roads of London and the U.S. featuring artists like Here We Go Magic, Band of Horses, The Virgins, School of Seven Belles, Holly Miranda, Jamie Lidell, The Antlers, among many others. DJ sets in the near future. A novel idea that works.
