Japandroids - Post-Nothing

Post-Nothing by Japandroids
LABEL: Polyvinyl

(aka) JPNDRDS is an unusual setup. Two men, a guitar, a drumset and both of them providing vocals. Only nowhere in here does it sound limited by that fact. In fact it sounds like some of the more rounded garage rock that's been released over the past year or two. Their debut full length from Unfamiliar Records is going to get people talking and it should.

There is so much happening on this release that it is easy to miss that it weighs in at barely over a half-hour. The complex work they put forth here is incredibly dynamic and interesting. The alternating vocals give it a very fresh sound and the drums are the real show stopper. Delightful rhythms being worked out throughout the course of the album came to a crescendo on 'Crazy/Forever.'

While Wet Hair was something of a throwaway, the rest of the album is a fascinating adventure through this project. It’s something worthy of a pretty high recommendation, if only to see what two people can do when they have a mind to.
