Fight Softly by The Ruby Suns

The Ruby Suns recent release, Fight Softly, is a percussive lo-fi pop album full of explosive sounds and notable tribal beats. Front-man Ryan Mcphun soothing falsetto can't help but put you in mind of bands like Yeasayer and Animal Collective. These similarities are enhanced by sweeping synth and effected drums that The Ruby Suns utilize to achieve their other-worldly sounds.

For the most part vocals are sunk back in the mix and play the part of an additional lead instrument. Combined with strong reverb effects that give the album a spacey vibe, it also allows the listener to interpret each song in their own way. Translation: I had no idea what these songs were about, which was probably exactly what the The Ruby Suns were going for. Fight Softly is cool noise that's an enjoyable companion anytime you feel like letting your brain relax and listening to crazy sounds that you only hear in your wildest dreams.
