TWO NEW YORK RECORD STORES REMAIN A FORCE... It's sad, but true. Many record stores, large and small, have shut their doors in the last 5-10 years—unable to adapt to the changing business model, unable to compete with the giant 'newcomers' iTunes and Amazon. It's no mistake, though, that New York's Other Music and Halcyon have not played a part in this story. Both have thrived in the virtual realm while maintaining unusually high in-store traffic. Bolstered by uniquely ideal locations, a knowledgeable/creative staff, choice inventories, and superb organization they have bucked the trend. It is to everyone's benefit they keep doing a good job..the hope that consumers are as thankful and continue to be supportive.
